I am Sarah, an artist-educator, lecturer & creative producer based in South East London. I’m also a mum of a busy toddler!
Since 2006, I have worked with organisations including Situations, Camden Arts Centre, Artsadmin & The Albany, Deptford to deliver innovative projects in unusual spaces, as well as lecturing at UWE, Bristol and delivering creative courses and workshops across London.
For the last 2 years I’ve taken my vintage 1969 Ace Globetrotter caravan, Esmerelda, on the road to connect with artists & communities at festivals across South East London (with plans to travel further afield in the future). All projects take ideas of home, belonging, migration and displacement as a point of departure. The caravan is a calm and welcoming space, and provides a unique environment to experiment with new creative ideas & techniques, all with participation at the core. In each site an eclectic programme of events takes place in & around the van, each providing a unique, site specific response to the locality for the duration of the stay.
So far I have been priveleged to collaborate with the following artists and organisations who are doing brilliant creative work within their communities – Bity Booker, Rugile Girdzijauskaite, Alex Hough, Alan Jenkins, Kaori Homma, Cafe Art, Art Refuge UK, Telegraph Hill Festival, Action for Refugees in Lewisham and Brockley Open Studios.
CARAVAN ARTS is a small space with limitless scope. Artists & performers are invited on board to explore their practice, collaborate in new ways, experiment and reflect – imagining & creating new visions for the caravan & for the diverse publics encountered. Please get in touch if you’d got an idea for a project, I’m always interested in new collaborations.
